A little bit about me…

Jordan Banick

I hold a B.A. in Political Science and Communications from the University of Washington, Seattle; an M.B.A. from the University of Rhode Island; and an Advanced Graduate Certificate in the Expressive and Creative Arts from Salve Regina University. This certificate provided the framework to merge the play of the expressive arts with politics and people, and I facilitate workshops through The Expressive Arts Collaborative. As the facilitator of The Victory of Running, I bring the breadth of my education, professional, and lived experiences to this work, with a creative lens that centers on our self-actualization as the foundation for moving into our communal solidarity-building work.

My Mission as the Facilitator of The Victory of Running

I aim to create space for the civically engaged and the civically curious, allowing each of us to show up as our whole selves and reminding us – individually and collectively – that we are enough just as we are. That supports each of us as we embark on our democratic journey with playfulness and joy. I work to create spaces grounded in love and compassion. This virtual hub and gathering space is built on the vision that each of us should show up just as we are right now, greeted with love and compassion. As a virtual hub, this space will offer stories of civic engagement and running for office and provide a platform to learn from those experiences. This virtual hub will allow us to grow together organically. Through this space, you will find workshops and training sessions that help us navigate the systems and structures we live within, while building the skills to change them.

To ensure I uphold that vision for our virtual hub and gathering space, I want to be self-reflective and open to evolving and changing, to know better and do better. I am always open to feedback, new ideas, and different perspectives. I hope this is a space for continuous learning, growing, and inspiration. I bring an open heart and am excited to see the collaborations that will unfold for all of us.

Projects & Positions

Health Care for America Now (HCAN)

State Campaigns Manager

Worked with partner organizations to develop programming with state partners in support of national issue advocacy related to health care, reproductive health and tax policies. Leverage the state-federal political landscape to assist partners in keeping issues related to health care and tax policy on the policy agenda.  Worked with state partners to develop short-term campaigns in support of the larger policy agenda.

The Womxn Project (TWP)

Co-founder/Strategist

Collaborated to develop the vision and strategy for a grassroots art and activism organization in Rhode Island.  Through that shared vision TWP developed into a statewide organization and became a member of the coalition efforts to pass legislation to protect the right to abortion in Rhode Island.  During my time at TWP, I worked to engage and empower activists to grow their ladder of engagement, assisted with strategic planning and power mapping, and served as the coalition representative. TWP successfully campaigned to pass the Reproductive Privacy Act, codifying the right to abortion into law in 2019.

RI Complete Count Committee

Field Manager

Field manager for the Rhode Island Complete County Committee (RICCC), Rhode Island’s supplemental effort to ensure a complete population count for the 2020 Census.  Through this collaborative effort and public-private partnership, Rhode Island was able to get a complete count in the 2020 Census and maintain two Congressional Districts.
